Tesla has announced a recall of more than 27,000 Cybertrucks due to a significant problem with the rearview camera system. This recall impacts vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024.
The issue centers on a delay in the rearview camera display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Specifically, some drivers have reported that camera images are delayed for as long as eight seconds, which is considerably longer than the two seconds expected for optimal safety. This lag can limit the driver’s ability to see what is behind the vehicle, raising the risk of accidents, particularly in crowded or confined spaces.
In a report submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla acknowledged that while drivers can still rely on mirrors and look over their shoulders when reversing, the delay in the rearview camera display poses a safety concern that needs to be addressed.
This recall marks the fifth for Tesla’s Cybertruck in the last year, illustrating the company’s commitment to promptly addressing safety-related issues. While the problem does not render the vehicles inoperable, Tesla is urging all affected Cybertruck owners to visit their nearest service center for a free inspection and necessary repairs.
Tesla’s quick response underscores its dedication to high safety standards and customer trust in its cutting-edge electric vehicles. If you own a Cybertruck produced during the specified dates, be sure to schedule an appointment at a Tesla service center to resolve this issue at no charge.
